Whose turn is it?

We hear that phrase often when we play our regular tabletop RPG. Over the years, plenty of cunning DMs came up with a plethora of solutions to this: using cloth pins on the DM's screen, using cue cards, etc.

But we came up with a modern, smartphone era solution: an Android app that syncs the initiative across all the player's devices, in real time!

Demonstration

What does it do?

As the name implies, it is at the very basic an Initiative Tracker. Add your party members, a few monsters or NPCs, ask your players for their initiative rolls and you are good to go!

Once you start an Encounter, every player in it will receive a notification on their device. And every time it's someone's turn, that someone will get notified too.

It can also track Health Points (Temporary, Non-Lethal, and even Wounds). You can add Conditions on the fly and they will automatically expire once their time is up, or remind the player to do some saving throws.

The app has been designed to work with most tabletop RPG systems.

Prepare your initiative

What's the limitations?

This app is by no means a character sheet. It works with most RPG systems because it tracks the most common informations that are changing on-the-fly during combat: Whose turn it is, Health Points, whether the Barbarian is Stunned and for how long; stuff like that. But it is not a means to track what class features you have, how many rations remain, or the name of that weird tavern guy.

Tracking very basic character information

What can a DM do?

A DM only needs to start a new Game and tell the invite code to the players. Once those players use that code to join the new Game, they'll be prompted to create a Character. All the DM needs to do now, is to create a few encounters

But don't worry: the app is still useful if you're the only one using it, it's just better with friends *nudge nudge, wink wink*.

How to join a Game

Prepare in advance

As a DM, you can prepare many encounters in advance, setting up the monsters and NPCs before your play session, and just start one when ready!

You can even save the monsters you add in your own personal Codex to re-use in future encounters. No need to constantly add those pesky goblins one at a time.

Disclaimer: The app doesn't come pre-loaded with monster informations, for legal/copyright reasons.

How to join a Game

Control the information

No DM likes metagaming. This is why you can hide opponents from your players or make them appear as 'Unidentified' until someone spots them or makes the proper Knowledge check to identify it. You can also hide the Health Points of opponents from your players.

Manage meta-information

What can a Player do?

You mean aside from having access to the order of play and being able to better guess if you have time to leave the table to grab a drink? You can track your own Health Points and Conditions without making a hole in your character sheet with an eraser. Since the DM also has access to your information, it can help him/her to decide if that natural 20 that might kill your character was just a fudged roll.

Track initiative

Get notified when it's your turn

You'll receive a push notification on your device when it will be your turn to play, and you can customize the sound it makes. Which is a great occasion to brag "Is this easy mode?" eveytime your barbarian can shine. True story.

Why Android and not iOS?

Android represents not only the largest app market in the world, but also a very accessible one for developers. It made sense for us to make an Android app first. But that doesn't completely shut the door on an iOS version: even our backend services can work multiplatform.

How much does it cost?

Check your Play Store for the exact price in your region, but we've set it at ยข99 CAD. There are no ads, no subscription, but we have server costs.

Do we all need to purchase the app?

Each user must have the app installed on his/her device. So yes, it usually means that you have to purchase your own copy. But the app is eligible for the Google Play Family Plan

Do I need Internet access?

Yes... and no. You need Internet access when you first sign-in with your Google account. You also need Internet access to use it as a multiplayer tool, because everything is synched through our server-based real-time database, and we use push notifications. But if you are the DM and the only one in your group using the app, it will work offline; just without any sync. Once you regain Internet access, your changes will synchronize with our server.

I play a system with Vitality and Wounds, can the app track that?

Yes, the DM just has to go into the Game Settings to turn on that feature.

Does it work with 'Save to End' Conditions?

Yes. When you add a Condition, you can choose if it ends at the start or at the end of a turn, but also if it's Save End. Both the Player and the DM will be reminded to save those conditions when applicable.

Why doesn't it track X information?

We did not venture to make yet another character sheet app. Truth is, there is almost as many character sheet variants as there are combination of players and classes. We also wanted to track only combat-related information that changes quickly and often, like Health Points. Every system, or even classes has something that another system doesn't and we didn't want to fall into a rabbit-hole of endless things to track. But you can give us feedback on what you think would be really useful to track, and we'll think about it.

Can I add a sweet portrait I made for my character in MS Paint?

Yes! You can use any picture on your device as a character or monster portrait. We save it as a 300x300px PNG.

My players are not always there for a game session, will the absentees be notified when an encounter start?

No, only the players whose characters are in the encounter's Initiative will receive notifications. We thought about you, West Marshes-styled players!

The Invite Link doesn't work, why?

It might not work when you send it through some apps that badly filters the URLs. For example, Facebook's Messenger has trouble with that kind of links. That's why there is always the option to just tell your player the Invite code.

We'd like your feedback!
